What is LSR process?
Unlike the standard reaction injection molding process, which relies on pressurized impingement mixing, liquid injection molding uses a mechanical mixing process that focuses mainly on liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and similar elastomeric materials. Liquid silicone rubber maintains its integrity under sterilization.
What is a valve gate injection molding?
To avoid this sort of dripping effect, a valve gate is used to instantly cut off any sort of flow of plastic out the nozzle. The injection molding is programmed as to how much plastic is needed to fill the mold.
What is open nozzle?
For instance, an open nozzle system allows the material to flow back into the cold runner during vulcanization when the LSR expands, acting as an equalizer. Since the valve gate has to be closed before the LSR solidifies, any filling imbalances cannot be corrected after the needle is closed.
Can silicone rubber be injection molded?
We offer liquid silicone rubber among our list of injection molding capabilities. Learn how to optimize LSR parts with 6 simple design considerations.
What is LSR used for?
WHAT IS LIQUID SILICONE RUBBER USED FOR? The most common application for silicone rubber is the production of LSR parts. LSR parts are used in a range of different industries. Their steam resistance and low compression set make them an excellent choice for gaskets and hardware in consumer appliances such as microwaves.
What types of gates are used in Moulding?
Below are the most common gates types in injection molding:
- Edge Gate.
- Tunnel / Submarine (Sub) Gate.
- Cashew Gate.
- Direct Sprue Gate.
- Diaphragm Gate.
- Hot Runner – Thermal Gate.
- Hot Runner – Valve Gate.
What is nozzle injection molding?
An often overlooked part of the injection molding process is the nozzle tip. The nozzle tip is the point where the molten plastic leaves the injection unit and enters the mold. Proper alignment also allows for plastic to be injected into the mold with a clear path into the runner system.
What kind of mold is used for silicone?
There are two basic types of silicone mold making products available. They are Polycondensation or Tin Cure and Polyaddition or Platinum Cure. The Polyaddition/Platinum Cure is the most expensive of the two. It offers better mold stability and less shrinkage.
How is silicone molded?
A combination of heat and pressure applied to the liquid silicone rubber cures the material until it solidifies. Upon completion of the cycle, the mold opens, and the part and flashing can be removed automatically or by a worker. Then, the mold closes and repeats the process.
