What is Thermowood decking?
THERMOWOOD® DECKING IS A RICH GOLDEN COLOUR SIMILAR TO THAT OF HARDWOOD WHICH IF LEFT UNTREATED WILL FADE TO A SILVERY GREY ONCE EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. TREATMENT. THERMOWOOD® DECKING IS HEAT TREATED TO CLASS THERMO-D AT TEMPERATURES OF 212°c MAKING IT SUITABLE FOR EXTERNAL USE.
Do I need to treat Thermowood?
As Thermowood is expected to have a prolonged life, it doesn’t necessarily need a surface treatment applied to it. Some people choose to add a finish, stain or paint to their timber to enrich its colour, but if it’s left untreated, the wood will naturally change to a silvery grey (similar to that of cedar or larch).
Does ThermoWood fade?
With exposure to natural elements ThermoWood® cladding will fade to a grey or charcoal colour, however this can be prevented, if preferred, by using a clear treatment with a UV filter which we can factory apply, please ask for further details or see our section on Painted Cladding . ThermoWood® is rated as ‘durable’.
Can you oil ThermoWood?
Indoor care of thermowood Conventional paints, wood oils, waxes and varnishes can be used for interior decoration. Paraffin oil can be used for saunas in combination with surface pigments to enhance the color of heat treated wood and protect it from dirt.
