What is harp regulation?
Harp regulation is a periodic maintenance service designed to keep your harp in optimal playing condition. In a nutshell, harp regulation includes: Replacing pedal and slot felts (pedal harps only) and adjusting pedal rods. Diagnosing and eliminating unwanted noise.
How often should a harp be regulated?
My basic advice is to have the lever harp regulation checked when the instrument is around two years old. The next regulation can be about six to eight years later. In the mean time, if there are some notes of concern, it is perfectly fine to have a technician look into correcting that situation.
How do you regulate a lever harp?
To regulate your entire harp, first, connect your harp to a tuner. Tune the low C, then lever the note and play the C string again as a C#. If the levered C# note registers in the same spot on your tuner as the open note, then move on to the next string (D).

How long does a pedal harp last?
Remember that a pedal harp sustains a static load of about one ton of string tension. Well-made harps will last over 30 years without major component replacement. Depending on how frequently they are moved and the care they receive, many last much longer.

Sharping levers enable easy key changes and the playing of accidentals within a piece of music.
