You can apply for a refund up to 14 days before the date you no longer need the TV Licence. If your licence has already expired, you can apply if less than two years have passed since the expiry date.

Cancelling your Direct Debit does not cancel your licence, so unless we hear from you, you will still receive the reminder letters we send to unlicensed addresses. To cancel your licence, please use our Contact us form telling us why you’re cancelling, your current address (and your old address if you’ve moved).

How does TV Licence refund work?
Any refund due is calculated in unused months. You must have at least one complete month left on your licence that you won’t need before it expires. If we approve your refund, your licence will be cancelled automatically. If you’re not eligible for a refund, you can still cancel your licence.

You can refuse to let an inspector in, but this might lead to them getting a court order – which means they would be allowed to enter by law without your permission.
